Toby Hartley takes Olive Barnett Award 2007

In House Catering Company's Toby Hartley has won this year's Olive Barnett Award.

Hartley, a general catering manager at In House, received the accolade at a champagne reception held last night at principal award sponsor the Langham hotel in London.

Hartley scoops a £1,000 per year grant for the next three years to assist in career development courtesy of the Savoy Educational Trust.

In addition, he will attend a week-long Hospitality Management Summer course at the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne in Switzerland.

The Olive Barnett Award, created by the Savoy Gastronomes and run by Springboard, has since 1975 sought to actively reward excellence in employees who have a customer facing role.

Tony Elliott of the Savoy Gastronomes said of Hartley: "He has a phenomenal grip on his business and is dedicated to making it as profitable as possible without any detriment to standards."

Third place went jointly to Christina Heindl, restaurant manager at the Swissotel The Howard and Marta Klehr, reception shift leader at the Berkeley hotel, both in London.

•The In House Catering Company has won the contract to provide catering services at British Arab Commercial Bank (BACB) in the City. The contract will have an estimated turnover in excess of £250,000 over the three-year duration. In House will provide private dining, hospitality and vending services to more than 130 people based at the offices in Mansion House Place.
