A former Nottingham hotelier has been fined £800 for not clearly displaying room tariffs and for misleading customers over prices.

Barkat Malik, of the Park Hotel, Waverley Street in Nottingham, was found guilty before Nottingham magistrates.

The court heard that in July 2005 a customer had complained to Trading Standards officers after she had booked a room for £75 over the internet to find she had to pay £120 when she arrived.

A Trading Standards investigation then found that the room tariff in reception was covered over by a shutter.

In his defence Malik, now retired after 18 years running the hotel, said he had not intended to deceive clients.

Malik was also ordered to pay £650 costs.
