Jurys Inn hotel chain sold for £750m
Derek Quinlan, the Irish property entrepreneur, has beaten off heavyweight competition to acquire the Jurys Inn hotel chain for almost £750m. Quinlan Private, his property and investment advisory group, clinched the deal in the early hours of Saturday morning for the 20-strong chain of budget hotels. The Jurys Doyle Hotel Group, is to focus on its four-star and five-star hotels. – Sunday Telegraph, 10 June

Celebrity chef Nick Nairn’s kitchen had 13 breaches of food safety
Unannounced visits to Nick Nairn’s chef's school at Port of Menteith near Stirling between 2003 and last year resulted in no fewer than 13 recommendations to improve standards of cleanliness, equipment and food storage. Pret A Manger plans major expansion in New York
Pret A Manger is planning a major expansion in New York. The sandwich chain, which arrived in America seven years ago, has given the go-ahead for an enlargement, understood to be worth around £30m, that will see it open more than 40 sites in Manhattan over the next four years. – Scotland on Sunday, 10 June
