Hotel operator Splendid Hotel Group has been ordered not to do any construction work on its 15 properties following the collapse of one of its buildings in London’s Victoria last week.

Following the incident, which occurred at the Queen Anne Business Centre on Dean Farrer Street, it has emerged that council approval had not been sought for construction-related work. 

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is still investigating but it has issued prohibition notices to Splendid Hotel group. 

The notices prevent work from being carried out on any of the group’s other properties, which include franchise hotels operating under the Holiday Inn, easyHotel, Comfort Inn and Best Western brands.

A spokesman for the Splendid Hotel Group told Building magazine: “We can confirm that clearance and small works of restoration were going on in the building [at the time of collapse]. 

“We can confirm that a prohibition notice has been served by the HSE and we are appealing the order on the basis that it is unreasonable and excessive.”
