Red Carnation duo beat US extradition order in connection with bank fraud

(04 July 2007 12:10)

Red Carnation hotel executives Stanley and Beatrice Tollman have successfully warded off moves to extradite them to the US.

The couple, who are wanted in connection with a $100 million bank fraud, beat the move on the grounds of Mrs Tollman’s health and the length of time the proceedings have taken against Mr Tollman.

District Judge Tim Workman, having discharged Mrs Tollman, 73, on health grounds last month, last week followed suit in the case against her husband, 77, saying,  returning him  “would inevitably cause oppression” to Mrs Tollman.

Mr Workman said: “Mrs Tollman, was the subject of an extradition request which has been discharged on the grounds that it would be unjust or oppressive to extradite her by virtue of her physical and mental condition.”
