Acclaimed US chef Daniel Boulud has agreed to settle a discrimination lawsuit brought against him by Latino and Asian workers at his flagship restaurant Daniel in New York.

The settlement sees Boulud pay $80,000 (£40,000) in damages to eight workers who sued claiming they were denied opportunities to advance to higher-paying positions within the restaurants. 

The men, who were bus boys and runners, said they were passed over in favour of newly hired white employees with less experience and were subjected to harassment and racial discrimination. 

In addition to the payment, the settlement calls for Daniel to adopt a policy to ensure that race and national origin are not factors in promotions and train managers about employment law. 

The restaurant, which is located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, said in a statement it was “very pleased” to have the matter resolved.

Gordon Ramsay Holdings recently faced claims of racial discrimination from a Muslim worker, who claimed he was subject to abuse at Ramsay’s flagship restaurant on London’s Royal Hospital Road.
