Hotels in the North-east of England saw revenue per available room (revpar) drop by 1.4% during the month of April.

Revpar was £49.09 in April 2007, down from £49.78 in the corresponding month of 2006, according to figures from hotel benchmarking service The Bench.

Although occupancy fell by 3.7 percentage points to 71.3% , average room rate rose by 3.7% to £68.85, compared with £66.40 in April 2006.

The Bench - which is partnered with US firm Smith Travel Research - provides online benchmarking data for in excess of 34,000 hotels in more than 400 markets.

The online service allows users to track their performance in average room rate, occupancy and revpar  in a variety of formats and to measure their daily performance against their competitors.
