Jonathon and Caroline Kaye have moved from Central London to run their new acquisition, the Cedar Manor hotel at Windermere in the heart of Cumbria’s Lake District.

The hotel in Ambleside Road – which was built as a gentleman’s retreat in 1854 – is named after the 200-year-old cedar tree in the half-acre grounds.

The Lakeland hotel offers 11 en-suite bedrooms that can sleep 23 guests and which include a four-poster room and two spa baths.

Facilities include a lounge with a fireplace and bay window and a 30-seat dining room on two levels with a central archway and bay window.

For the owners, there is a three-bedroom flat.

The Manchester office of Colliers Robert Barry sold the freehold off a guide price of £1.15m on behalf of Ken Elliott and Rowan Mahon.
