Hotels in the West Midlands saw revenue per available room (revpar) plunge by 23.8% during the month of April.

Revpar was £44.60 in April 2007, down from £58.50 in the corresponding month of 2006, according to figures from hotel benchmarking service The Bench.

Occupancy dropped by 8.9 percentage points to 61.1% while average room rate fell by 12.6% to £73.05, compared with £83.60 in April 2006.

The Bench - which is partnered with US firm Smith Travel Research - provides online benchmarking data for in excess of 34,000 hotels in more than 400 markets.

The online service allows users to track their performance in average room rate, occupancy and revpar  in a variety of formats and to measure their daily performance against their competitors.
