Newquay hotel inferno claims lives of guests
One man has died and six other people are missing after a hotel blaze in Newquay this morning. Three others were taken to hospital after a huge blaze broke out at the Penhallow Hotel shortly after midnight. Guests staying at the Penhallow and two adjoining hotels were evacuated after the flames spread under the roof. The Penhallow Hotel is owned by Holdsworth Hotels which also has hotels in Torquay, Eastbourne and the Isle of Wight. It is part of the Robinsons Holidays group.  – Western Daily News, 18 August.

Luminar plans to hand back £41m to shareholders
Luminar yesterday said it would use the proceeds from the sale of its Chicago Rock Cafe and Jumpin' Jaks bars to return £41m to shareholders. Earlier this year, Luminar disposed of 54 Chicago Rock Cafe branded venues, 13 Jumpin' Jaks branded sites and another 31 non-core units. – Yorkshire Post, 18 August.

Last remaining igloo restaurant to be demolished
The last igloo in Canada’s far north, a restaurant for 27 years, is set to be demolished. The Kamotiq Inn restaurant is to be replaced in coming months by a 50,000 sq ft office building. The restaurant, only 120 miles south of the Arctic Circle, is the only existing example of modern igloo architecture. – The Times, 18 August.

Burger chain entrepreneur opens Polish bakery in Scotland
Jon Clemence, the entrepreneur behind the Wannaburger restaurant chain, has built Scotland's first large-scale Polish bakery.  The Leith bakery will supply hotels, restaurants and Polish delicatessens with organic bread baked with Polish flour. – Scotland on Sunday, 19 August.
