A couple from Glossop in Derbyshire have snapped up an award-winning country house hotel and restaurant in Barmouth, North Wales.

The three-star Bae Abermaw hotel sits in 3.5 acres of lawned and wooded gardens in an elevated position on the Panorama Hill, where it enjoys coastal views across Barmouth Harbour and Cardigan Bay.

It has collected a number of awards from such organisations as the Lonely Planet, Johanssen’s, Welsh Rarebits, and the Which? Guide to Good Hotels, which named Bae Abermaw Hotel of the Year in 2005.

The detached Victorian property accommodates 14 en-suite bedrooms, a three-part residents’ lounge, a 30-seat restaurant with one AA red rosette, a fully-licensed function room to hold 120 guests, and an open-plan conservatory.

There are also separate quarters for the owners with two double bedrooms.
 
Although new owners David and Susie Reeve are new to hospitality, having run an IT company in Glossop, they have partnered up with Andrew Robert, former general manager of the George III hotel at Penmeanpool.

The Manchester office of Christie + Co sold the freehold off an asking price of £850,000 while Christie Finance provided the funding.
