Vineet Bhatia, chef-proprietor of the Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, is to launch a new eaterie in London.

Urban Turban, which is scheduled to open in the next few weeks, will be a casual dining restaurant located in Westbourne Grove.

The head chef will be Dev Juneja and the menu will focus on lighter, tapas-style dishes based on the street food of Mumbai.

Bhatia told Richard Vines of Bloomberg News that the new restaurant wouldn’t serve British Indian favourites such as chicken tikka masala or vindaloo.

“We’ll be serving Indo-Chinese dishes such as sweet-and-sour prawns, only the Indian version,” Bhatia said.

Urban Turban will expand Bhatia’s existing restaurant portfolio that includes outlets in Dubai and Moscow as well as plans for further eateries in Mauritius and Geneva.

Bhatia was one of the first Indian chefs to be awarded a Michelin star for his London restaurant Zaika in 2001.
