Travelodge today announced that it is offering a £25m bounty to the public to help drive its ambitious expansion plan across the UK.

The budget chain, which currently operates 321 hotels, intends to add 500 new UK properties to its portfolio by 2020 and is appealing to the general public to help source potential sites.

It has offered up to £150,000 to individuals who find a new or existing UK location which results in the opening of a Travelodge. The size of the bounty depends on the property, with a reward of £500 for each bedroom the proposed hotel can accommodate.

Travelodge property director Paul Harvey said: “We’re on a mission to open more UK hotels than any other company in history and would like our customers, staff and the general public to get involved.

“We have a fantastic property team that is already working on hundreds of sites, but you can’t beat local people for local knowledge.”

Travelodge is targeting every major UK town, with a focus on Greater London, the South East, the North West and Midlands.
