Chefs in Wales are being called on to enter next year’s National Chef of Wales competition.

Entry to the biennial event, which is organised by the Welsh Culinary Association (WCA), is open to all chefs who either work or study in Wales.

They are challenged to create a three-course menu for four within three hours incorporating True Taste winning products.

The winner will receive a cash prize of £2,000 as well as the opportunity to reproduce the winning menu for 120 guests at a presentation dinner at the Imperial hotel in Llandudno next May.

The deadline for entries is 10 December and application forms can be downloaded from the WCA’s website here >>

WCA chairman Peter Jackson said: "This competition gives all chefs in Wales a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate their culinary skills at an event designed to showcase the best the country has to offer.”

  • Michael Bates, executive chef at the five-star St David's Hotel and Spa in Cardiff, has been honoured with the inaugural Wales Chef Skills award. He received the accolade at a National Tourism Awards ceremony held at Bodelwyddan Castle earlier this week.
