Jumeirah to open flagship hotel in China
Jumeirah has unveiled plans to debut its first flagship hotel in the Asia-Pacific region, with the opening of a hotel in Shanghai next August. The group also plans to open a total of five hotels in China by 2011. The new property, named Jumeirah Hantang Xintiandi, will be developed by Shanghai Lixing Hotel and operated and managed by Jumeira. It will include 338 standard apartments, 14 suites deluxe, one presidential suite, and a large number of meeting rooms and banquet rooms. The hotel will be designed by New York-based Kohn Pedersen Fox Architects and Japan Super Potato.

Langham launches resort in Thailand
Langham Hotels International has launched its first Langham Place Resort in Thailand. Located on Lanta Yai Island, in Krabi province in southern Thailand, the Langham Place Eco Resort & Spa is a five-star resort including 185 rooms and villas that extend directly from the beach up the hillside overlooking Klong Tob Bay. The resort includes extensive sporting and leisure facilities including a cinema and spa as well as conference and meeting facilities.

Marriott to add 59 hotels in Asia-Pacific by 2010
Marriott International has unveiled plans to add a total of 59 hotels to its Asia-Pacific portfolio by the end of 2010. The new hotels will provide 18,160 rooms across five brands with multiple openings in Thailand, China and India. The expansion will add around a third more hotels and almost 50% more rooms to Marriott's lodging presence in Asia-Pacific over the next 36 months. The hotels include six properties in India and Thailand representing the company's Marriott Executive Apartments brand for extended stay travellers and its deluxe, upscale Renaissance brand. All six will operate under long-term management contracts.

W Hotels to launch new hotel in Bangkok
W Hotels has announced plans to open its second hotel in Thailand with the launch of a new W Bangkok. The newly constructed, 400-room hotel is scheduled to open in 2011 as part of a mixed-use development in the city's commercial and diplomatic centre. The W Bangkok will include a signature restaurant and bar as well as 30,000sq ft of meeting space. Additional facilities will include a W Kitchen, W Living Room, a Sweat Fitness Centre, an outdoor pool and a signature spa.

Hilton to enter Azerbaijan
Hilton is to launch its first hotel in Azerbaijan with the opening of a property in the country's capital city of Baku in 2010. The 300-room Hilton Baku will be added as part of a management agreement with locally-based ISR Kapital Investments. Hilton's president for Europe, Wolfgang M Neumann, said: "This move illustrates Hilton's commitment to expanding in key emerging markets across Europe. Increasingly positive economic conditions in Azerbaijan have provided us with a clear opportunity to introduce our full-service Hilton brand to the city of Baku."
