Industry data: Top coffee shop groups 2007

Whitbread's Costa Coffee brand overtook Starbucks as the UK's largest coffee shop group with more than 600 outlets.

Costa Coffee has added nearly 200 new outlets since last year while Starbucks expanded its estate by 43 new venues to end with 549. 

Motorway service area operator Welcome Break made its debut in the table this year with the new Coffee Primo brand, which has grown to 64 venues.

These facts and figures are reported in British Hospitality: Trends and Statistics 2007, published by the British Hospitality Association.
