Former Michelin-starred Adlard’s Restaurant in Norwich has been sold to a local hotelier.

In its 24 years, Adlard’s has helped build the careers of Aiden Byrne, now at London’s Dorchester hotel, and 2007 Catey winner Tom Kerridge of the Hand and Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

Proprietor David Adlard trained at London’s Connaught under Michel Bourdin and originally opened the eaterie in Wymnondham in 1983, achieving a Michelin star in 1986 before relocating to Upper St Giles Street in 1990.

Tony Burlingham, who bought the property, already has businesses in Upper St Giles Street as well as the Beeches hotel in Earlham Road, Norwich.

Although property agents Christie & Co did not disclose the sale price, the restaurant’s freehold was on the market for £550,000.

Adlard, who told Caterer in May “the time has come to move on,” has bought a guesthouse in Norfolk, according to Christie & Co.
