Compass HR executive director Mike Burton to leave

People 1st trustee and Junior Chefs Academy champion Mike Burton is to leave his role as executive director of HR at Compass Group UK & Ireland.

Burton, who has been with the company for nine years, is "looking for a new challenge and direction" outside the caterer and will leave in March.

Burton joined Compass in 1999 as HR director, and his role changed to executive director, HR, in 2005.

His 95-strong department oversees the training and development of 66,000 employees at 7,000 client sites, as well as recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits.

Earlier this month, Compass announced it would be extending its successful Junior Chefs Academy initiative to encompass front-of-house.

Burton is succeeded by Woolworths Group HR director Robin Mills, who will become HR director in early March.

Mills, who has also worked for drinks giant Diageo and brewer Scottish & Newcastle, will report directly to UK & Ireland chief executive Ian El-Mokadem, who said: "I'm delighted to welcome Robin to our team. He brings an extensive HR experience coupled with a strong commercial orientation."
