Hilton to open first Doubletree hotel in UK

Hilton Hotels Corporation has signed a partner for its first Doubletree hotel in the UK which is set to open in Cambridge on 2 April.

The project will see Cambridge Garden House hotel converted into a Hilton Doubletree with 122 rooms and meeting and event space for social events, executive board meetings and training sessions.

Hilton will manage the site but Ability Hotels (Cambridge) will own the property. Its parent company, Ability Group, owns over 7,000 residential and commercial properties in the UK and is already working with Hilton on its Liverpool site.

Simon Vincent, president of Hilton UK and Ireland, said: "Cambridge is the ideal location for the first Doubletree by Hilton hotel with it being a thriving historic city with good access to London.

"The Cambridge Garden House was an excellent site to convert into a Doubletree by Hilton with it already having a sound reputation and great facilities for us to work from."

Vincent added that the aim was to have "at least" 20 Doubletree hotels in the UK within the Hilton estate over the next five to 10 years.

Hilton unveiled plans last year to double its number of hotels in UK and Ireland from 75 to 150 over the next five years.
