SA Brain buys award-winning Aberdovey inn
Leading Welsh brewer and pub operator SA Brains has bought the Penhelig Arms in Aberdovey, Gwynedd, off an asking price of £2m.
Aberdovey is set within Snowdownia National Park, with a Blue Flag beach, lots of watersports, and a nearby 18-hole championship golf course,
The original inn is believed to date back to the 18th century and to have been one of a terrace of cottages.
It can sleep 31 guests across 10 bedrooms in the main building, four double-bedroom mini-suites in a separate annexe, and a self-contained suite to sleep four in the two-storey Penhelig House.
Facilities include a two-section restaurant to seat 40 diners, the 30-seat Fisherman's Bar, a residents' lounge on the first floor and harbourside seating and an elevated patio to the front of the hotel.
Penhelig Arms has won a clutch of awards for its food, including the Les Routiers Wales Dining Pub of the Year 2005, National Wine Pub of the Year 2004, and UK Seafood Pub of the Year 2005 in the Seafood Awards.
The Cardiff office of Colliers Robert Barry sold the freehold on behalf of Robert and Sally Hughes, who have run the inn for 21 years.
