Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises (SNPE) has said there is “no truth in the rumour” that pop singer Madonna has bought the Punch Bowl in Mayfair, London.

SNPE, the leaseholders of the 18th century pub, was linked earlier this week with the £2.5m deal with Madonna, husband Guy Ritchie and nightclub entrepreneur Piers Adam, the owner of the Mahiki bar on Dover Street, Mayfair.

Yesterday the Material Girl’s publicist told the showbiz press that it was “pure fiction” that she had bought the site which was once owned by Freddie Foreman, who was convicted with Charlie Kray for murder in 1969.

Property agents Davis Coffer Lyons broke the news that they advised on the deal yesterday, but were unable to comment further.
