JD Wetherpoon takes Lavazza's Rainforest Alliance blend

Lavazza is to supply the entire JD Wetherspoon estate with its Rainforest Alliance-certified blend, Tierra.

Following a new agreement, all 680 JD Wetherspoon pubs will now be serving Lavazza's ethical coffee blend, a 100% Arabica blend, full bodied with a floral aroma.

The coffee is blended from beans grown in plantations certified by the Rainforest Alliance, which guarantees that coffee bearing its label has been grown under sustainable conditions, generally involving organic practice, and in communities where the welfare of the workers is monitored.

JD Wetherspoon, which now serves more than 16 million cups of coffee every year, made the decision to switch to Tierra ethical products in order to have access to a long-term, reliable supply of high quality and responsibly-produced coffee in response to consumers' growing interest in ethical products.

Lavazza UK sales and marketing manger, Barry Kither, said: "JD Wetherspoon is already committed to quality coffee, having invested heavily in high-quality machines, maintenance and an extensive staff training programme. This move shows that the chain wants to offer its customers an ethically sourced, sustainable product that also delivers on taste."

Tierra was first launched in the UK away-from-home market in 2005.
