(13 March 2008 14:30)

Singer Inns and Taverns has bought the Globe Inn near Tiverton off a guide price of £450,000 – the most expensive Enterprise Inns leasehold ever sold in the South West.

It is the fifth West Country pub to join the portfolio at Singer, which is owned by Dean and Simone Singer from Exeter.

The Globe Inn, which backs onto the Great Western Canal, is based in the mid-Devon village of Sampford Teverell which lies on the A361 just a five-minute drive from the M5 at Junction 27.

The business is a hub of local community life and offers six en-suite bedrooms, a 45-seat public bar, a 42-seat restaurant, a breakfast room and an 80-seat function room-cum-skittle alley.

There is also a two-bedroom flat for staff and separate two-bedroom owners’ accommodation.

To the rear is a patio garden and an enclosed beer garden with a children’s playground.

Food accounts for 50% of sales, followed by wet sales (44%) and accommodation (6%).

The Exeter office of Christie + Co sold the lease on behalf of Andrew and Sue Trevelyan, whose family has run the inn since 1967.
