Former Roux Scholarship winner Scott Hessel and owner of the Old Bore at Rishworth has bought the Carlton Inn, in Carlton Husthwaite, North Yorkshire.

The Carlton Inn, which was on the market for an asking price of £575,000 with property agent Colliers Robert Barry, was previously owned by John and Sylvia Furnish.

The Carlton is a grade-two listed building with two bars and a 34-seat restaurant. Hessel and wife Lisa plan a four-week refurbishment and will rename the property the Carlton Bore.

This year’s 16 finalists for the Roux Scholarship will compete at London’s Westminster Kingsway College on the 31 March, with the winner announced during April.
