Von Essen buys Seaham Hall hotel and the Samling
Von Essen has bought two of the North-east's best known hotels, Seaham Hall and the Samling, from Tom's Companies.
Five-star Seaham Hall, near Newcastle, is linked to the Serenity Spa, which was designed by Jocelyn Maxfield and been voted Best Spa for Style by the Sunday Times and Best UK Spa Destination from Conde Nast Traveller.
The Samling, based in the Lake District, is more than 200 years old and has view of Lake Windermere.
The properties were purchased for an undisclosed sum.
At the start of the year Von Essen founder Andrew Davis revealed the company, which already owns the Royal Crescent hotel in Bath and the Cliveden in Berkshire, was aiming to acquire ten major properties during the year.
Davis said: "I am delighted with the acquisition of these two very special hotels, our first in 2008."
Von Essen now has 27 hotels across the UK.
