Rugby World Cup drives Sodexo sales in half year
Sodexo has seen strong sales growth in the UK and Ireland in the first half of its financial year thanks to its involvement in the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
The caterer and facilities management company, which recently unveiled a new UK chief executive, saw its UK and Ireland division boost sales 29.3% in the half quarter of the year as a result.
Sodexo oversaw both corporate hospitality and travel packages for the competition, which took place last year predominantly in France, as well as providing catering at a number of host stadiums.
Adjusted for currency fluctuations, Sodexo UK and Ireland's sales in the half year to 29 February 2008 increased 14.9% to €827m (£649m).
Sodexo's worldwide sales in the period increased 9.2% to more than €7b.
