River Café fire forces restaurant to close

Acclaimed London restaurant the River Café has been closed after it was damaged in a fire at the weekend.

According to a report in the Sunday Mirror the Michelin-starred restaurant in Hammersmith, which is run by Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray, was evacuated on Saturday evening after a fire broke out in the restaurant’s kitchen at around 7.30pm.

The restaurant was due to close this August for refurbishment.

A statement on the River Café website says the restaurant remains closed following the fire but should open again soon.

The eaterie, which opened in 1987, has launched the careers of chefs such as Jamie Oliver, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Theo Randall.
