Radisson Edwardian hits back at TV documentary exposing poor hygiene

Radisson Edwardian has labelled last night's Tonight TV exposé of the luxury group as "sensationalist".

Tonight's documentary Posh Hotels Undercover](http://www.itv.com/News/tonight/episodes/Hotelsundercover/default.html) showed hotel cleaning staff using dirty towels to wipe glasses clean and mice in the kitchens.

Although Radisson Edwardian said it was "appalled" by the programme's content, and admitted to a breakdown in training and supervision, it added in a statement:

"While we do not deny that the instances filmed over a three month undercover operation took place, we do strongly refute any suggestion that they are typical of day-to-day activity within these three hotels."

"Radisson Edwardian are confident the incidents shown were a result of some employees disregarding codes of practice designed to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness."

As a result the company has suspended certain members of staff implicated in it and said it had restructured responsibilities at senior level and reviewed the amount of funding provided to housekeeping.

The company has also today received backing from national tourist board VisitBritain, which said in a statement:

"We have independently assessed all Radisson Edwardian hotels incognito annually for the past two years and the May Fair is in the top 2% of hotels monitored in terms of cleanliness. All the other hotels regularly achieve a very high standard."
