Hotel company Centre Island is investing £16m to refurbish the Crowne Plaza hotel in Birmingham’s City Centre.

The project which is due for completion in September will see a complete redesign of the hotel’s 312 bedrooms.

On completion the hotel will also feature a restaurant and eight conference rooms that will accommodate up to 300 people.

General manager Michael Mason said he hoped the refurbishment would “put the Crowne Plaza back at the heart of the global city”.

“We are ideally located in B1 to serve the needs of the city’s local businesses and visitors to the International Convention Centre”, said Mason.

Centre Island currently operate eight hotels in Merseyside and it employs 800 members of staff. The company’s turnover last year was £32m.
