Win cookware worth £1,000 – Buy It! competition

While fish and chips and bangers and mash are still firmly lodged in the affections of British diners, this traditional fare now rubs shoulders with the likes of chicken tikka masala, sweet and sour chicken, spaghetti bolognese and chilli con carne.

Almost every pub that serves food will have curry and pasta on the menu, and many workplace restaurants offer dishes from several continents. The British diet really has become international, but satisfying such wide tastes and expectations can seem quite daunting.

Unilever Foodsolutions aims to help chefs meet consumer desire for more adventurous dishes with its Knorr Essential Seven campaign, featuring seven core sauces and a range of 49 recipes.

"The selection of sauces that form our Knorr Essential Seven - Korma, Tikka Masala, Sweet & Sour, Black Bean, Bolognese, Tomato & Basil and Sweet Hickory BBQ - is based on market research and directly reflects the nation's favourite cuisines eaten out of home," says Laurence Smith, category marketing director, Unilever Foodsolutions.

"Using this range means chefs can offer their customers any of the seven meals which make up part of the top 10 meals served out of home - including spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, curries and stir-fries - without the need to buy and store expensive, multiple ingredients."
