Do I need a panini grill to make paninis?

Not really. The panini grill is basically a ribbed contact grill. It's an inexpensive piece of equipment that's easy to use and, with a huge range of simple recipes freely available from the web, getting a panini menu up and running is easy.

Contact grills are an efficient way to cook all sorts of food -such as toasties, grilled meats and burgers - fast, as they heat from both the top and the bottom. If you want to cook both meat and paninis in the grill, then it's probably worth buying two - maybe one flat and one ribbed - as that will save time cleaning.
