Liverpool to get £17m boutique hotel

A dilapidated office block in the centre of Liverpool is to be restored and converted into a £17m boutique hotel and spa.

Architect and building consultant firm Purcell Miller Tritton (PMT) will transform the Royal Insurance Building on the corner of Dale Street and North John Street into a 90-bedroom hotel and spa and is looking for an operator to run it.

The building, which dates back to 1903, is currently so rundown that it is listed on the English Heritage Buildings at risk register.

The health spa will be built in the base of the building, whilst the ground floor will contain a restaurant and bar, as well as meeting rooms.

James Sanderson, chief executive of PMT, said he was "thrilled to be involved in the preliminary stage of such an exciting project".

PMT previously restored the iconic St George's hall in Liverpool.
