Sodexo chef named School Chef of the Year 2008

Sodexo's Sonia Reynolds has been named School Chef of the Year 2008 at a cook-off held yesterday at University College Birmingham.

The competition, run by the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) and sponsored by Maggi from Nestle Professional, was judged by celebrity chef John Burton Race.

Reynolds, a chef at Brimscombe Primary School, near Stroud, Gloucestershire, beat eight finalists to the title, preparing a meal meeting the national nutritional standards and costing no more than 90p.

Highly Commended Main Course went to Shona Sutherland from Coupar Angus Primary School and Highly Commended Dessert was given to Lynn Bennet at St John's Primary school.

Sandra Russell, chairman of LACA and a judge on the day, said:

"LACA's School Chef of the Year is really a great opportunity to show just how in tune our school chefs are with their customers and how adaptable their skills are in meeting the challenge of creating healthy school meals."
