McDonalds to create 4,000 jobs in UK
Fast-food giant McDonalds is to looking to recruit a further 4,000 employees in the UK.
The company revealed that an additional two million customers a month were walking through its golden arches than last year, with takings in the UK approximately 10% during the first half of 2008.
McDonalds plans to open 10 new outlets in the coming year and will continue its refurbishment programme, including the redesigning of its untis and the installation of Wi-Fi, in 200 locations by this time next year.
The recruitment drive is part of its My McJob campaign that looks to transform the once derogatory term for staff working at the fast-food chain into an attractive career option.
McDonalds UK senior vice-president, David Fairhurst said: "In 2006 we reclaimed the term McJob with our Not Bad for a McJob campaign, and over the past two years we have received considerable support from our employees, our customers and business leaders.
"We feel the time is now right to take another step forward and start celebrating the McJobs we offer.
In the USA McDonalds is evaluating its $1 menu due to significant food inflation pressure. The ten item menu has been in place for five years in its 14,000 US restaurants but the rising price of dairy and meat has caused some outlets to raise item prices to $1.19. See our food inflation page for hints on and tips on managing food costs.
