Gordon Ramsay beats Marcus Wareing to top spot in Zagat London restaurant guide
Gordon Ramsay has reclaimed the top spot on the London restaurant scene in the Zagat London Restaurants 2009 guide, while his former protégé Marcus Wareing has come sixth with Pétrus, which will reopen as Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley next week.
The celebrity chef and TV presenter's eponymous restaurant on Royal Hospital Road Michelin-starredChez Bruce in South London, and La Trompette in Chiswick, West London.
The Zagat guide, based on a survey of 5,300 diners, praised Ramsay's "amazing" New French menu and also voted the restaurant number one for service.
Alain Ducasse won best newcomer for his "divine" restaurant at the Dorchester hotel in Mayfair, ahead of the "vibrant" La Petite Maison and Hereford Road, which specialises in modern British food.
Vegetarian restaurant Food for Thought was voted the best value restaurant, followed by Churchill Arms and Books for Cooks. Most popular London Restaurant went to noodle chain Wagamama, with the Ivy and J Sheeky in second and third place.
