Le Chef Ecological chef's jacket
Denny’s is offering one of its new Ecological Chef Jackets to 10 lucky Buy It! readers to help them move towards a greener future.

The jacket, worth £23.50 (plus VAT), is part of the company’s Le Chef collection and is the first in a range of eco friendly products. The cotton is treated using ‘bio-preparation’ methods, which avoids the use of harsh chemicals.  As large amounts of water are no longer needed to flush away these chemicals, each Eco Jacket saves up to 40 litres of water compared to traditional methods. Although the cotton is only semi-bleached, the finished jackets have the smart appearance associated with traditional chef’s whites.

A lower level of carbon is produced in the manufacture of the jackets, as the whole manufacturing process – producing the yarn, weaving the fabric and making the garment – all take place within a five mile radius, in Pakistan.

Rather than using buttons made from plastic, a product of oil, the Eco Jacket fastenings are made from Corozo, or Tagua Nuts.
When dried and polished, these nuts look similar to ivory, and are mostly sourced from palm trees in Ecuador.  Corozo nuts are a more sustainable source than plastic or ivory, as each female tree produces a yield of 20lbs of nuts a year.

For your chance to receive an Eco Chef Jacket, email louisa@thewordbox.com with your name, job title, company name, address and telephone number by 30 November 2008.
