Ramsay left Wareing with empty reservations book, says critic

Gordon Ramsay Holdings called everyone in the Pétrus reservations book before it switched hands to Marcus Wareing to inform them that the restaurant had closed and offer them tables elsewhere in the group, according to Times food critic Giles Coren.

In his review of the newly-named Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, Coren praised Wareing's bravery in going alone and said the food on offer was "cuisine as haute as you can get in London".

"If you're planning to spend 300-odd quid on a meal for two in the next couple of months, then you might think about doing it here," Coren concluded.

Meanwhile, areyoureadytoorder.co.uk food critic Jan Moir said the food at Bel Canto, the new opera themed restaurant in the City of London, makes "you want to hurl yourself off the nearest battlements".

In her review of the restaurant, which sees up-and-coming opera singers performing whilst serving a three-course meal, Moir quoted her dining companion's horror at the state of the cassolette they were served.

"The cassolette is one of the worst things that have ever been served to me in a restaurant."

The Guardian's Matthew Norman was impressed with the "majestic" food at Angela Hartnett's Murano, but felt the décor and design of the restaurant "was not her".

He suggested a parting of the ways with Gordon Ramsay Holdings: "Angela, love, it's time to move on. He's holding you back and you're much too good for him."
