McDonald's achieves record growth in the UK

Value-conscious customers have driven record growth at McDonald's UK, the fast food giant has revealed.

Unveiling results for the three months to30 September, McDonald's UK said it delivered like-for-like sales growth, taken from restaurants open for 12 months or more, of more than 8%.

The company said it is now serving more than 100m customers a month at its 1,200 restaurants across the UK.

Steve Easterbrook, UK chief executive, said: "It is the tenth consecutive quarter of growth in the UK. We have real momentum in the business."

The figures highlight the trend of middle-class customers flocking to companies perceived to offer value for money, he added.

McDonald's is also benefiting from the decision to extend the opening times of its restaurants. Some open at 5am and 200 UK branches trade for more than 24 hours at weekends.

McDonald's global operating income increased by 20% over the three months to 30 September to $1,823.7m, and its total worldwide sales rose by 7.1%.
