Green light for new 147-bedroom Holiday Inn Express in Manchester
Planners have secured permission for a 147-bedroom Express by Holiday Inn in Manchester's city centre.
Manchester-based planning company HOW Planning will build the hotel on behalf of Sanguine Hospitality.
The hotel includes a ground floor retail section and a lower ground reception area, with views overlooking the River Medlock.
Designed by Stephenson Bell Architects, the proposals will be located opposite the BBC's North West studios.
Conor Vallelly, planner at HOW Planning said work was due to start on the hotel in early 2009.
He said: "The proposals include the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a stunning new leisure development which will result in wider environmental improvements.
"This was a challenging site but the architects have put together an excellent design which maximises the opportunity to take advantage of this highly sustainable location."
