Yorkshire-based buy-to-let developers the Skelwith Group have bought the Raithwaite Hall estate as part of a £30m development.

The group plans to develop the estate into a five-star 42-bedroom boutique hotel featuring a spa, which will be a sister hotel to the Skelwith Group’s £100m Flaxby Country Club, located between York and Harrogate.

A fine-dining restaurant and bar will also be included, as well as a conference and function area to seat up to 180 people.

All 42 rooms will be sold to individual investors, in a similar way to the business model used at the Flaxby Country Club where over half of the 303 rooms have already been sold.

A planning application has just been submitted and work is hoped to start next January, and is expected to be completed in early 2010.

Paul Ellis, the Skelwith Group’s managing director said the Hall would be a “fantastic destination” and a “perfect fit” to complement Flaxby.

Skelwith Leisure, a specialised division of the Skelwith Group is developing the site and is also actively looking at other acquisitions to boost its leisure portfolio.
