One of France’s most well known chefs, Olivier Roellinger, is closing his three-Michelin-starred restaurant Maisons de Bricourt in Brittany.

Roellinger is shutting the restaurant in the small port of Cancale in the west of France citing fatigue and personal matters as the reasons behind the surprise move.

The restaurant is set to close on 15 December.

Aged 53, Roellinger, who gained his third Michelin star in 2006, said that “after 26 years of happiness at the oven it is becoming increasingly difficult by the day to cope with the physical demands”.

He is the fourth three-starred French chef to throw in the towel after Joel Robuchon gave up his stars in 1996, Alain Senderens in 2005 and Alain Westermann in 2006.

“I will transmit and share my cuisine differently, more in line from now on with my deep desire to communicate,” Roellinger told news service APF.

“I will go towards a wider public, and be more available than I could have been by keeping the three stars.”

Maisons de Bricourt is one of 26 restaurants in France with Michelin’s top accolade of three stars.
