Vacherin reveals plans for first public restaurant at Whitechapel Gallery

London contract caterer Vacherin has revealed details of its first public restaurant project as part of a new contract with the East End's Whitechapel Gallery.

The gallery, favoured by artists Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, is currently completing a £13.5m expansion project.

As part of a five-year contract worth £5m in total turnover, Vacherin will look after the gallery's events business and is also working with designers Project Orange to create the new street-facing Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room.

Operating under a concession style arrangement the 40-seat dining room will champion British food with a focus on seasonal produce, housed in a former library adjacent to the gallery.

Due to launch in April, the restaurant will open six days a week and will be closed Mondays. Vacherin will also run a café/bar on the mezzanine level of Whitechapel Gallery.

Tom Wilcox, general manager of the Whitechapel Gallery, said: "We will be one of the most exciting new cultural buildings in Europe and Vacherin are buzzing with ideas that will enhance the whole gallery experience."

Mark Philpott, managing director of Vacherin, told Caterersearch: "The whole basis of setting up Vacherin was drawing on our restaurant and hotel experience to deliver top-notch service and I'm very excited that we will now be able to show the public what we can do."
