Cater Link extends school dinner contract in Camden

Cater Link, a stable mate of contract caterer BaxterStorey, has won a two-year £5.4m extension on its school meals contract with the London Borough of Camden.

First reported on Kitchen Rat in June, the caterer this week received confirmation that an extension to its original three-year deal had been given the thumbs-up by councillors.

The contract, worth £2.7m in annual turnover, sees Cater Link providing services to more than 50, predominantly primary, schools in the borough.

Cater Link managing director Tony McKenna told Caterersearch: "We're delighted about the extension and continuing our great relationship with Camden and look forward to developing it further."

In the New Year, the firm is planning the introduction of a series of school gardens in Camden, where pupils will be able to get involved in growing their own produce. Cater Link will then purchase the produce at commercial rates, providing income to support the gardens' upkeep while improving pupils' knowledge of food.

Cater Link, which also provides school dinners in neighbouring Islington, has had an active summer and will start four new school meals contracts in January 2009.

The Camden extention will run from 1 April 2009 until 31 March 2011.
