Surinder Arora urges employees to remain vigilant in the wake of Mumbai bombs

Property and hotel tycoon Surinder Arora has warned hotel employees to remain vigilant of unusual behaviour from both hotel guests and staff members in the wake of the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

Speaking at the Arena Lunch on Monday (1 December) at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, Arora, founder and chairman of Arora International said: "When you get mad people who are there to blow themselves up, how can any security be safer, you just have to be much more alert?

He added: "Of course we have security at most properties these days, but we have to try to educate our staff members. Any question mark over anyone, whether it be unknown team members or guests, you much approach them."

Arora, who hails from the Punjab region of India, said that the events of last week had been very sad, "but it could have got a lot worse after 9/11. Some of the stories we hear are that they wanted an Indian version of 9/11 and I just hope and pray that the Obama team members will hopefully come in and try and calm things down," he said.

"We've got ourselves into such a mess that having seen that the Russians couldn't defeat the Taliban when they are next door to Afghanistan, how the hell are we going to do it from 5,000 or 10,000 miles away? I just hope the world gets back to being a bit more normal."

In association with Premier Foods, Caterersearch.com has an exclusive video of Surinder Arora talking about his rags-to-riches story and his plans for the hotel group, Arora International, at Monday's (1 December) Arena event, which celebrated 25 years as a networking platform for hospitality professionals, below.
