Hotels in India redouble security efforts
Hotels in India have redoubled their security efforts in the wake of last week's terrorist attack on two of the country's most popular hotels.
Armed men took guests of the luxury Taj Mahal Palace and Oberoi Trident hotels hostage during a three-day rampage that left more than 188 people dead.
The New Delhi hotel, owned by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, and the Oberoi Group of hotels have deployed extra armed security guards and are carrying out background checks on all staff.
Security has also been strengthened at bus and railway stations, cinemas and other public places.
There will be a shortage of hotel rooms in the city while the affected hotels remain closed. No official dates have been given for the reopening, although part of the Oberoi Trident is expected to open in the next few weeks. Taj Mahal Palace is sending clients to its other properties in the city.
