Compass Group retains contract with the Wellcome Trust
Compass Group's fine dining division Restaurant Associates (RA) has retained its multi-million pound contract at medical research charity the Wellcome Trust.
Located on London's Euston Road at the charity's headquarters, the three-year deal is worth £4.2m in total turnover and involves staff feeding for 500 to 600 employees as well as internal hospitality.
As part of the deal RA will also look after the Trust's conference centre, which is part of the Wellcome Collection and includes galleries, a library and a café.
The public café at the site is run by celebrity chef Oliver Peyton's Peyton and Byrne.
Steve Mason, meeting services manager at Wellcome Trust, said: "Following a competitive tender process we are delighted to have appointed Restaurant Associates for a further three years. RA has demonstrated that they can bring the economies of scale of the Compass Group but deliver a product very much tailored to the individual requirements of the Trust in their pursuit of excellence."
Wellcome Trust was one of the first restaurants to be covered after Compass achieved Marine Stewardship Council certification for the fish it uses in its restaurants.
Last week Compass revealed that it had pulled out of the British Hospitality Association claiming the industry body had become too large to effectively represent the contract catering sector.
