Domino's expects 2008 performance to exceed expectations after sales surge

Domino's is expecting to deliver full year-profits ahead of City expectations after sales continued to soar in 2008.

In a trading statement for the year ended 28 December 2008, the pizza delivery chain said system sales in the UK and Ireland increased 18% to £350.8m (2007: 296.3m).

Like-for-like sales, which strip out the positive effect of new store openings, increased 10% year-on-year compared with 14.7% in 2007.

Domino's exceeded its 50 store opening target for the year, launching 52 new stores and creating around 1,500 new jobs. It now operates 553 stores in the UK and Ireland.

E-commerce revenue accelerated with sales for the year up 73.7% (2007: 60.5%) at £55.9m, supported by some record weekends where online sales were in excess of £1m.

The company will publish its full-year results on 17 February 2009.
