Jurys Inns to add four new hotels to chain
Budget hotel chain Jurys Inns has exchanged contracts on four new hotels in England and Scotland in a £90m deal.
The four new hotels will be located in Glasgow, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Bradford and will create 300 jobs.
The properties will be funded by the hotel chain's development partner, McAleer and Rushe, and the properties will be operated on long-term leases.
The hotels are due to open in 2010 and come on top of seven new openings scheduled this year, the first of which, the 259-room Jurys Inn Sheffield, opened last week.
Other forthcoming locations include Bradford, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Glasgow.
Acting Jurys Inn chief executive, John Brennan, said: "It is a significant vote of confidence in the Jurys Inn brand and business model that we can announce plans for four new hotels in today's challenging economic climate.
Brennan added that the brand's positioning meant it was attractive to business users trading down from 4-star hotels as well as leisure guests after a weekend break, "something missing from the UK's no frills budget operators".
Jurys Inns operates 24 budget hotels and more than 5,850 rooms in leading cities in the UK and Ireland, employing some 3,000 people.
