Chef Peter Gordon awarded New Zealand Order of Merit
Peter Gordon, chef-proprietor of London's Providores restaurant and Tapa Bar, has been made an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in his home nation's New Years Honours List.
The list is New Zealand's equivalent of the UK's own new yearly honours system and, as here, is approved by the Queen.
The UK-based New Zealander, who made his name at the Sugar Club (in its original incarnation in Wellington, and then when it was re-born in London in the 1990s) before setting up his own restaurant, was recognised for his "services to the food industry".
This not only encompasses his skills as a chef and restaurateur, but also his tireless fund raising for leukaemia research and treatment through his annual Look Who's Cooking Dinner? (aka Leuka Dinner) charity events in London, and also latterly in New Zealand.
