Booker Group awarded Carbon Trust Standard

Wholesaler Booker has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard for its commitment to take action on climate change.

The company has reduced its gas, electricity and diesel consumption by focussing on distribution efficiencies, colleague training and awareness campaigns, trialling fuel alternatives and supporting customers with green products and services.

It has also increased backhauling, replaced mechanical handling equipment and refurbished dock bays.

Booker's chief executive Charles Wilson said: "Booker is committed to building a long term, sustainable business for our customers. We are delighted to be the first wholesaler in the UK to gain the Carbon Trust Standard and are looking forward to continuing to further reduce our carbon footprint."

In addition, all branches of Booker now offer recycling of used cooking oil which is then converted to biofuel for use in Booker lorries and the company has helped customers recycle 200,000 litres of used cooking oil.
